We celebrated Jordan's first birthday yesterday. Jordan is our youngest grandchild. Jordan did not enjoy the singing very much. But once he got a bite of that cake, everything was better He is in that phase where he only wants his dad to hold him. I can't wait for that phase to pass. We used to have fun singing silly songs, now the only singing is his crying when I try to hold him. He let me get close to him while he was looking at the mountain of new toys. I was zooming the pull back car and sending it toward him, and that had him entertained for a minute or two and he forgot his dad was not around. Here are some snaps from the party.

Scrapbooking Retreat
I was invited to a scrapbooking retreat this past weekend. The church where I grew up was having the retreat. I have not been a member of this church in over 30 years, but some of my friends still attend. They were very kind to invite me to participate. The retreat was held at the camp where as a kid and teenager I would go to camp for a week every summer. It was always the highlight of my summer. I had a great time. It was cold this weekend and the room had a giant fireplace that we had roaring. The camp was more primitive than I remembered but there were so many great memories there.
I am very blessed to have friends that I have known since I was 5 and grew with at church. We have great memories of our childhood, and teenage years. The first picture is of my friends: Paula, Judy, Terry and me. The second picture is the people who worked very hard and organized the retreat, my friend Debbie and her daughter Kalen. Judy, the sister and aunt, respectively, is in the middle. They did a fantastic job.
My scrapping project from over the weekend was Girlfriend pages. I have photos from over the years and I am having a great time scrapping them. I will post some of them when I finish.

Road Trip to Waco

My DH and I took a little road trip today to Waco. There is a scrapbook store there that I have been looking at online. My DH was born in Waco and he took a little drive down memory lane today. The store was a very nice one. They had a lot of paper brands that I have only seen in magazines. There was an event going on that I am guessing had about 50 people participating in. The best part was that there was a SALE! 25% off everything in the store except adhesive and cardstock. There was a Mardel bookstore in the same shopping center. Jason's deli was in the shopping center as well. I just love Jason's. We had supper there.
On the way home we stopped in the Hillsboro Outlet Mall. We needed to use the bathroom more than shop. They have a Bath and Bodyworks Outlet there. I ran into Liz Claiborne store. The sign said everything was $9.99 or less. I found a rack of $7.99 and was just so excited. My DH stayed in the car and I was trying to hurry. I picked up several things and when I got to the check out, I learned that they were having an additional percentage off! I bought a tweed jacket, (it was actually $14.99), 7 pairs of pants and 3 shirts for $63.00! Some of my pants were only $1.99. The store is closing this December and they do not know how long the additional percentage off will last. If you are in Hillboro, you have to check it out! It was a great bargain shopping day!

LAST CHOSEN FOR THE JELLY BEAN TEAM
My daughter Katie loves jelly beans. When she comes for a visit we usually buy jelly beans for her to eat. We actually all love the jelly beans. This visit we sat at the table and ate them before our dessert! At the end of the bag, our least favorite flavors are left over. They are the last chosen for the jelly bean team. At my house those are the coffee, root beer and licorice flavors. There could be a chocolate flavored one hiding in there but the chance of getting a coffee one, is not worth the risk. They have been sitting on the table, lonely in the candy dish, for over a week now and I will have to toss them in the trash. I always feel so bad for those who are chosen last!!

Rudy and George and the GREEN CAN!!
We have an empty nest of sorts. No two legged children live in our home. However, we have two very spoiled four legged children. We have Rudy, a mixed breed dog, who will be 16 this year. Then there is George, a blue Doberman who is about 9 years old. They are our babies.
I have had Rudy since she was 6 weeks old. She was born on the island of Okinawa. We were a military family living there. My neighbor brought her mother home. The mother was running loose and wild on a Marine base. The neighbor had just moved into housing that allowed dogs and brought this little black and white dog home. She asked me that day if I thought the dog was pregnant. I looked at the dog, who did not appear to me to be full grown, and replied I did not think she was old enough to be pregnant. The next day she had three puppies. Rudy was the runt and my daughter, who is 22 today, begged us for the puppy for her 7th birthday. I felt guilty because we had given away our cat before moving to Okinawa. Her dad and I gave in. They were inseparable until Rudy ate all the hands and feet off her Barbies! Rudy is half goat. She has eaten things that would have killed a normal dog but not Rudy the goat. Rudy is in the winter of her life. She has a large tumor in her chest. I stare at her sleeping to make sure she is still breathing. I often want her to lay down to sleep and just not wake up. That way, I will not have to make a difficult decision about when it may be time to have her euthanized. But, then when you are a pet owner, making the hard decisions comes with the joy of having a pet love you. Rudy does not seem to be in pain and she eats and eliminates and still is the Alpha dog. So, I hope that her final days are happy.
George is our big boy. He is a blue Doberman. I have learned since bringing him home that grey dogs often have a problem with hair loss. George has thin hair between his shoulders and hips. We brought George home from a local animal shelter about 5 years ago. He was running loose in a neighborhood. He was a little skinny but obviously had been someone's pet. He was house trained and loves people. Th vet estimates that George is about 9 years old. Blue Dobermans are often called "velcro dogs" because they stick to you. He feels the need to be touching someone all the time. My husband had raised Dobermans many years ago. George is the biggest dog, size wise, that I have ever had. He is also the biggest baby I have ever had.
We have a green treat can that sits on the counter. Rudy and George live to hear the sound of the lid being taken off the the green treat can. Rudy could stand to gain a few pounds and George needs to loose a few. But they would both eat treats until they popped. Sometimes. they just stand by the counter and bark for us to come give them a treat. George has been taught not to counter surf, however, if Rudy were a little taller, it would be an all you can eat buffet everyday.
